We believe
there’s only one effective way to find
investment candidates with above
average
potential for long-term growth: search for them ourselves.
Staffed and structured to make our own investment decisions
That’s why, at Harold C. Brown & Co., we have always used in-house
specialists to provide investment research and recommendations. Our research
analysts focus on the economy, financial markets, industries and individual
companies, looking for new investment opportunities as well as monitoring
the strength of current investment holdings. As members of an independent
firm, our analysts have only one interest: our clients’ best interest. They
are not burdened by potential conflicts of interest in selecting stocks,
because we are not investment bankers or market makers.
In addition, most portfolio managers conduct ongoing research and
analysis projects. In total, more than three-quarters of our professional
staff is involved in this intensive security screening and selection
process.
When appropriate, analysts or portfolio managers visit companies we
are considering, or have selected, for investment. This firsthand,
on-the-scene investigation gives us a decided edge over firms that rely on
broadly distributed research subscription services. In addition, we attend
numerous industry conferences during a year.
Weekly investment committee
meetings
Our analysts present specific investment recommendations at a
weekly investment committee meeting. Six senior portfolio managers, all with
more than 20 years’ experience, evaluate and give final approval on these
recommendations. As a result, before any buy or sell recommendations are
used in client accounts, they are vigorously examined and debated. We
believe this approach – which combines diversified viewpoints and extensive
experience – produces superior investment decisions for our clients.
